I offer in person lactation consultations in your home or my office.

Why might you need a private consult?

Sometimes for some of the reasons listed below and sometimes just for reassurance.

Suck/latch difficulties
Increasing/decreasing milk supply    
Premature infants
Twins/multiples
Management of sore nipples 
Slow weight gain/failure to thrive        
Separation/illness/pumping
Caesarean section

What happens during a home visit?

We start by taking a history around your pregnancy, labour and baby’s birth as well as any other relevant health details that might have an affect on the establishment of breastfeeding. Seeing you and the baby breastfeeding is of course a key part of the consultation and being in your own home can be important here so that I can establish whether latch and positioning are affected by where you feed and the comfort levels your environment provides for you.  Getting these two right can make all the difference!  All of this takes approximately 2 hours.

The same procedure is followed at an office consult but obviously we cannot make use of your own comfort aids in this situation.  Choice of consult location is entirely up to you.

Pricing

First consult – at my practice (1½ to 2½ hours): €90

First consult – home visit (1½-2½ hours): €90
plus €1.20 per kilmetre (one way only)

Follow up consult (usually 1 hour): €60

Short telephone call (max 10 mins): Free

Sunday and public holidays: €20 extra

Some of the health insurance companies, Quinn, VHI, Hibernian will reimburse for lactation services based on your own particular package.

Classes are mostly provided on a one to one basis, if a group does wish to organise a class that can be arranged. They are usually held pre-natally so that you have the information and resources you need to get off to the best possible start. The classes are fun and interactive. Have your partner/mother/sister/friend with you so they can also learn how to support you.
