I am very privileged to be able to work with mothers at this very special time in their lives, in their own home or at my clinic and to get to meet their baby.
There are many reasons why you might need a consultation and sometimes all you might need is some reassurance. Being able to have support and reassurance offered is part of the service I provide. Creating a plan of care that will work for you and your baby and helps to solve your breastfeeding difficulties is the important thing.
Why might I need a consultation?
Basic Breastfeeding Education Prenatally
Latch & attachment
Management of Sore Nipples
Too Much Milk/Not enough Milk
Returning to Work - pumping etc.
Insufficient Glandular Tissue
Tongue Tie and associated issues
Fussy Baby/Instrumental Delivery baby
Home Visit consultation
I will come to your home, Cork City and county, Getting assistance in your own home can make a big difference. Let me know where you live and I will get back to you with a time for me to come to your home that will suit us both
Questions I will ask DURING A CONSULTATION will include information on:
How to Prepare for your home visit...
Well first off I do not expect you to clean and tidy the house, or bake, in fact I expect to see new mums in their pyjamas!!!
Baby will need to feed during the visit in order for me to fully assess what is going on, so if you are giving baby some supplements please hold off on this before the scheduled visit.
It is helpful to have your partner or parent/sister/friend present to help with other children or pets - though I am pretty flexible on this - I do want to give you value by being totally present for you and baby.
It's also valuable to have your partner present to hear the information being imparted, new mothers sometimes have problems taking in new information - it is a biological norm so don't worry about it as I will give you notes anyway.
I usually ask parents to strip baby down to his/her nappy so that I can better make an assessment of the baby's behaviour at breast and otherwise.
Think about where you want the consultation to take place, in the bedroom? or family room? I am easy with either, I am used to climbing on beds to help and also used to searching around for items that will help with getting a more comfortable position.
If you live outside of my range of areas to visit, then this might be an option for you. I arrange to do consults, either by facetime or skype and I will help you to breastfeed successfully whilst you are still in your own home.
People sometimes choose to visit me in my office as the time might suit them better or availability comes sooner. The office clinics will be held weekly in Skibbereen. The office visit is usually shorter and has some time constraints.
