About Geraldine Cahill, IBCLC

I work as a private practice lactation consultant in Cork City and County, Ireland. I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I am also the mother of four breastfed children.

I began working in the area of breastfeeding and childbirth during my own parenting journey, which has now been an ongoing process for 21 years.

I am a member of Cuidiu ICT (www.cuidiu-ict.ie) and whilst gaining support and encouragement throughout parenthood from this organisation, I also gained other skills, organisational and educational.  I trained as a breastfeeding counsellor 18 years ago and as an antenatal educator more than 10 years ago and for the last two years I have also been a Breastfeeding Tutor with Cuidiu. Having served already on many committees within the organisation I am now serving on the National Breastfeeding Panel and am the representative for Cuidiu on the HSE National Strategy and Implementation Monitoring Committee.

I am a member of both the Association of Lactation Consultants in Ireland (ALCI) and the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) – I am the liaison person between both of these associations. In addition, I also serve on the Membership committee of ILCA.

My interest and motivation in helping mothers in their breastfeeding as well as their birth process has increased over the years.  I believe that the two are inextricably linked and strive to provide the highest standard of birthing and breastfeeding education so that Mums in Cork are empowered to meet their own breastfeeding goals.
